About Suzanne McKee
I was very fortunate to grow up in the small artist community of Fairhope, Alabama on the eastern shore of Mobile Bay (http://www.theutopianfairhope.com/). My home was and is within walking distance of the Fairhope Arts Center so I began taking painting and drawing classes when I was a preteen. My favorite subjects remain landscapes and wildlife.
I completed a B.A. degree in commercial design and am now retired after 27 years as a commercial artist. Over the years I painted as I had a chance and won several awards for realistic wildlife painting in oils. Now, I have the freedom and energy to paint more. What a great feeling!
I love to paint scenery around Fairhope and the Mobile Bay area but I also love the paint Southern wildlife.
A few notes about my art.... I frequently paint on stretched canvas but I also paint on canvas sheet or canvas board. I always prime the boards on the back so that they won't be subject to moisture damage and I varnish all my paintings which makes the colors more luminous and gives the painting a surface that can be cleaned if necessary while protecting the paint. I have found paintings on canvas board or canvas sheet to be much less of a worry and expense for shipping and they pack and move more easily. All of my color pencil drawings are on acid-free paper, illustration board or birch panels and are sprayed several times with a fixative. Some originals will be sold framed. Finally, the space drawings display best when spot-lighted to make the color pop. Shipping within the U.S.A. is included in the prices of original art.
I would also like to mention that I have opened a store on Zazzle at www.zazzle.com/mckeeart.
Thanks for looking!
